Lemon Sole, a small yet stunning fish is sourced from the south-west UK waters in the county of Cornwall. Interestingly, it’s a closer relative of the plaice or halibut as it comes from the flounder family rather than a Dover, who is of the sole family.
We source approximately 500g size fishes, from which we offer you 2 x 130g fillets. The name, lemon sole, is shrouded in mystery with some sources explaining it comes from the French word “limande”, or due to its shape, looking like a diamond lemon. Who knows?
What we do know is, Lemon sole is enjoyed by seafood lovers for its delicate and mild flavour. It has a slightly sweet taste but does not taste of lemon, despite its name. The fish is commonly used in cooking and is often baked, grilled, or pan-fried. It is considered a versatile fish that pairs well with various herbs, sauces, and accompaniments.
It’s true, while the fish itself does not taste lemon, you’ll see from any popular cookbook that paired with lemon this fish comes to life. Some of the most popular recipes are Grilled, Baked with a herb crumb and pan-fried with a lemon butter sauce.
